28 Jan International Battery Company and Xponential Battery Materials sign MoU to Develop the World’s Most Sustainable EV Battery Using Industrial Byproducts

International Battery Company (“IBC”) and Xponential Battery Materials (“XBM”) have signed an MoU to collaborate on the production of an industry-leading, sustainable, high-energy density, low-weight, and cost-effective Li-Sulfur (Li-S) Solid-State Battery (SSB), for EV battery markets.
Global Surge in Demand
The demand for affordable and sustainable, urban e-mobility battery solutions presents a massive opportunity for new technologies and architectures in the battery industry. This collaboration establishes a development partnership that aims to leverage IBC’s chemistry-agnostic innovation platform with XBM’s unique approach to supplying CarbonX™ Li-S Active Cathode Material (CAM) material. In addition, XBM will bring related LSB and solid-state cell manufacturing know-how to help IBC accelerate commercial-scale cell production in the US.
IBC is an end-to-end lithium-ion product company specializing in the design, development, and manufacturing of prismatic form factor cells for niche players in the mobility and storage sectors. “This partnership with XBM marks a significant step forward for IBC in our journey to bring cutting-edge battery solutions for the unmet needs of the storage and mobility markets. Turning Industrial Waste Byproducts into Sustainable Battery Materials – US-based XBM takes abundant waste byproducts from petroleum (sulfur) and paper processing (lignin/tannin) industries to serve as a critical domestic EV battery material supply chain feedstock. According to Phil Roberts, XBM’s CEO, “Our CarbonX Li-S cathode active material is the most sustainable EV lithium-ion battery (“LIB”) cathode material with nearly 2x the specific capacity compared to other LIB cathode materials, at roughly half the cost of competing LSB cathode materials. We are very excited to be working with the team at IBC as they expand their operations in the US.”
