03 Oct XBM Achieves Significant Milestones in 2024
Progress in Biomass-based Advanced Battery Cathode Material Performance and Key Partnerships
As part of an ongoing commitment to transforming the US critical advanced battery material supply chain with innovative and sustainable material solutions, XBM is proud to announce several notable advancements in 2024…
Expansion of CarbonX Li-S Biomass-Based Cathode Material Options
Xponential Battery Materials (XBM) has successfully expanded our biomass-based Li-Sulfur cathode battery material portfolio to now include lignin byproducts sourced from a major U.S. manufacturer. In recent tests, our lignin-based cathodes have delivered performance results comparable to our showcase tannin-based cathode porous carbon host materials, underscoring the potential of lignin in next-generation sustainable US battery material supply chain solutions. The Company continues to develop processes to take most any type of biomass byproduct material and process it into a valuable porous carbon battery material.
Enhancements in Lithium-Sulfur Battery Cathode Performance
With over 4 years of rigorous in-house and institutional research and material process optimization, XBM has further improved the capacity and cycle life performance of our CarbonX advanced Li-S cathode materials, with the combined lowest carbon footprint and highest-capacity of any known commercial cathode battery material. These enhancements are reflected in our various Lithium-Sulfur battery prototype full cell prototypes, which demonstrated significant capacity (1,100mA/g) and cycle life performance gains, enabling Nextgen high-performance US made Li-S, Solid-State, Li-metal, or Si-C battery solutions.
Strengthening Strategic Partnerships
In line with XBM’s growth strategy, our company has expanded our network of strategic partners to include a global engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm, an eAviation company, and solid-state battery material developers and suppliers. These partnerships will help accelerate our ongoing commercialization efforts as we continue to help foster sustainable US transformational battery technologies.
Looking Ahead: U.S. Commercial Cathode Material Plant
XBM remains on track with its plan to establish a commercial pilot cathode material plant in the United States by 2026. This facility will be a critical step toward scaling up commercial production to meet the growing demand for its CarbonX Li-S cathode battery materials.
